Before & After

About a year or so ago, I wrote a post talking about the long wall in our entry foyer.  The wall needed something, so one adventurous day I started hanging some of my smaller quilts.  The post drew the attention of another blogger, who just happened to be doing an article on decorating with quilts.  I was thrilled she wanted to include my wall in her article.

Well, I'm always moving things around.  The wall needed a change---maybe it has been  the hot summer days???  I did some rearranging and this is the foyer wall now.

A simple design---seems to have a more "uncluttered" feel.  I added a mirror.  Someone once told me that foyers should have mirrors.  Not sure why---Do you know?  Notice the reflection in the mirror.  Opposite the wall I added a screen to give more of an "entry feel" to a very open floor plan.  The screen is draped with two older quilts, framed quilt needlework, small pedestal with a lamp.  The lamp adds a nice soft glow to the area in the evenings.  I'm enjoying both looks and I know I'll change things again, that's just the way I am.  So for now, that's the foyer!!!

Do you use quilts in your home's decor?  Have a wonderful Friday & Happy Quilting!

Making Prayer Flags

It seems like every time the phone rings we are hearing sad news from friends and family.  Life goes along peacefully for many months---even years---and then the phone rings.  We have had deaths, major surgeries, life changing diagnosis and life changing events occurring within our family and our circle of friends this past month.  I have made and mailed three Prayer Flags just this week.

2000 years Prayer Flags were made by the native peoples of Tibet to spread blessing and prayers on the wind to the nature god Bon.  They are never hemmed so that as they fray the prayers will be spread far and wide.  As Prayer Flags  deteriorate a new flag can be placed over the old one or the old one should be burned in respect for the prayers and blessings it has spread.  Today, they are still being made to spread blessing on the wind.

I don't have pictures of the Prayer Flags I made this week, but this little AAQI quilt from the past is a good example of what they can look like or they can be a simple single piece of fabric with words or a prayer you wish for them to spread.  A quick search of the web images can give you a good idea of what you can make to send to a family member or friend who is going through a difficult time.

I noticed that this is my post #501.  Things have changed since I started this journey in quilting.  AAQI is in its final year.  I'm no longer making mini quilts for Alzheimer's, but I'm still using vintage fabrics to make little art quilts, mug mats and venturing out into larger quilting projects.  How has your quilting changed over the years?  Have a happy Thursday and as always, Happy Quilting!

Sunday--Precious Promises

... what does the Lord require of you

                 and to love kindness,

Still Working on Christmas Quilt

It seems like ages since I last wrote a new post.  We have been very busy this month with new and exciting family activities.   We just returned home from a family reunion and celebration of my hubby's mother's 90th Birthday.  We threw a big party at her retirement community in Arizona.  Family members attending enjoyed catching up with each other, it was a special weekend for everyone.  To add to the excitement, our son (36 and an only child) announced that we were going to be "first time" grandparents.  I'm trying to stay under control--this is just an exciting time and a real blessing.
With all this going on my sewing has slowed down.  I'm still working on the Christmas Quilt, but I'm behind.

I completed #4 just before all the excitement.  Now that the large blocks have been completed, I hope to complete one more before the first of September.  This has really been fun---not sure about accuracy???
Have a wonderful week and Happy Quilting!
