Final Mini

This miniature quilt is my final donation to AAQI for Alzheimer's research.  Liberated nine-patch blocks made this little quilt fun to make and vertical quilting kept everything simple and focused on the wild nine-patch placements.  Fly Away Nine-Patch is 8 1/2 x 11 inches and is my donation number #110.  I'll miss making these little quilts, but what a great run for AAQI.  The quilts will make one last showing at the International Quilt Festival in Houston, October 30-November 3.  With everyone's final push, Ami Simms hopes to have 2,500 quilts for sale in Houston.  There is still time if you want to make a contribution.  Quilts must be in by August 1.  Go to www.alzquilts.org for information.  All my AAQI quilts are now Off The Wall making room for some new ideas.  Check out Off The Wall Fridays to see what great quilts others have been making.  Have a wonderful weekend and Happy Quilting!

A Woman's World

It's A Woman's World.  This little AAQI quilt was so fun to make.  I enjoy mixing machine and hand quilting and this little quilt has both.  The novelty print has been fussy cut and raw edge appliqued.  Then with my walking foot I machine quilted the horizontal of the quilt.  With embroidery thread I added a primitive hand quilting stitch for a "pop" of color.  Added some tiny buttons and this cute little quilt was complete.  The quilt measures 8 3/4 x 11 inches and will be on it's way to help earn a "cool" million for Alzheimer's research.  Have a great Wednesday and Happy Quilting!

Narcissus Fairy

In the past I have made a few AAQI quilts from this fairy/flower novelty print fabric---just love this quiet little novelty print.  So here is my last fairy/flower print quilt.  Narcissus Fairy measures 6 3/4 x 10 3/4 inches.  It is machine quilted with metallic gold thread.  A sweet and gentle little quilt.  Have a great Wednesday and Happy Quilting!

The Circus is Coming to Town

Circus, Circus, Circus is a little AAQI quilt made from a novelty print.  With some fussy cutting of the print and raw edge applique, this little quilt was put together quickly.  I used a meandering all over machine stitch for the quilting.  A fun, quick 8 x 9 3/4 inch quilt.  Think about making a little AAQI quilt and sending it into AAQI before the August 1, 2013 deadline.  Quilts are needed to reach the $1,000,000.00 goal for the final year. Happy Quilting!

In Honor of Baseball

I've had a busy week and not in front of my design wall.  We have been entertaining friends and attending baseball games.  Our friends are from Cincinnati, so we enjoyed 3 games between the Cardinals and the Reds.  In keeping with the beginning of Baseball Season, I'm going to post a quilt I completed a few years ago for my son (I real baseball fan).
Since my son is older I didn't want the "little boy" baseball quilt look.  After much searching, I made the blocks from vintage baseball logo fabric I found on eBay.  The diamonds are appliqued on to the pinstripe block and then put together with star and a baseball novelty print.  The quilt was machine quilted with stars and a large meandering stitch.  This Christmas gift was a real surprise and one he really likes.   This was one of my first large quilts.  Check out the great quilts large and small that are over at Off the Wall Friday.  Have a wonderful weekend and enjoy a baseball game---Go Cardinals or your favorite team.  Happy Quilting!

The Final Six

Many people are thinking Basketball today because the NCAA Championship game will be played tonight. But today I'm thinking instead of Final Four, Final Two---I'm thinking Final Six.  I have completed my Final Six AAQI quilts.  The completion of the these quilts will being my total donated to 110.  Nice number for a final count.
This little guy has no name.  I'm usually really on top of this name thing, but for some reason I don't have a name, yet??  Maybe it's because I just started sewing.  The little nine-patch in the center was an orphan block and I just added as I went along.  The quilt measures 7 x 8 3/4 inches and is machine pieced and machine quilted.  I think Little Mr. No Name would make a great mug rug.  It seems to say "good morning".  Happy Monday and Happy Quilting!

Quilt Top Ready

I started this quilt top long before our Western States vacation, but something about this quilt top seemed to yell--Wild West.  It was inspired by a novelty print of horses.
I made fabric by piecing commercial fabrics around a center fabric.  My center fabric was made many summers ago with nails and vinegar.  Soak a piece of fabric in vinegar and wrap the nails or what ever metal you wish with the vinegar cloth.  Wrap in a plastic bag around the cloth and set in the sun for a few hours. Wash and dry cloth and your ready to start quilting.
I fussy cut the horses and appliqued them to the fabric.  Used a tiny machine zig-zag stitch for the applique.
All is complete and on my design wall ready for quilting.  Measures about 22 x 23 inches. This little quilt is going to be a great reminder of our recent vacation.  That's what on my design wall, what's on yours.  Check out http://ninamariesayre.blogspot.com/  Off The Wall Friday to see what others are doing.  Have a great weekend and Happy Quilting!

My Bags are UNPACKED!!!

We're home and settling into our daily routine.  Wow, what a trip.  The weather was beautiful, with western skies, warm breezes and lots of sun.
We enjoyed the views of Bryce Canyon and Zion National Park.  The lights of Vegas and the desert valley of Phoenix.  We arrived home to the buds of spring in Missouri.  How wonderful.  Traveling is always refreshing to the body and mind.  I usually come away with ideas for quilts running around in my head.  This trip was no exception and I hope to get a few of these ideas into cloth in the weeks to come.   Wishing you a wonderful Wednesday and Happy Quilting!!
