The 7 little hearts are made from homespun fabrics and appliqued on a simple 9-patch block.
The quilt needed some life--so the addition of more red and white fabric helped to make it come to life.
This quilt became my take-along project as I completed the hand quilting.
The quilt traveled not only in the USA but it spent a month with me in London, as I completed the hand work and added the two little silver hearts charm.

This little mini measures 11 x 11 1/2 inches and would a wonderful addition to a summer table setting.
To win Patriotic Hearts comment on--How you spend the patriotic holidays of Memorial Day and 4th of July? or for international readers--How do you celebrate your countries national holidays? Our big dog Bo knows that Memorial Day means "Bath Day" before a family BBQ. The best comment will win and the announcement of the winner will be May 10th at 5:15pm (PST). Enjoy blog hopping this week at Sew, Mama, Sew and I look forward to reading your comments. Happy Quilting!!
I love going to the park with my family and having a picnic.

We always spend the 4th and Memorial day at the lake grilling & playing games with our extended family!
ReplyDeleteI'm in England so for St George's day I like to fly the flag!
ReplyDeleteSince it is generally pretty hot where we live, we watch the fireworks on TV! We like to spend the day quietly until the fireworks!
ReplyDeleteLove your patriotic quilt!
I'm Dutch, but living in Hungary. So my "national" holidays differ. For the last Queen's Day this year, we visited the Embassy in Budapest for a party, next year we'll see how the first King's day will turn out! The 4th & 5th of May are always the remembrance & liberation day, but for those we don't get a day off, nor does the Embassy have any parties, so apart from seeing some of it on tv, it went by quietly.
ReplyDeleteHungarians have a hugue party for St Stephen on August 20th, due to work we rarely go anywhere on that day, but 2 years ago they had quite a nice party in Budapest with LOTS of food and planes over the Danube. (:
Love the fact that our quilt comes with a story!
Love to picnic with the family. Then watch the fireworks with the grandkids! They get so excited :)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful quilt!
ReplyDeleteUsually for Memorial Day we will go to my hometown and visit. My favorite time was when I asked my grandfather if I could go with him to visit all the graves and help clean them. I love knowing where my ancestors are so I can continue the tradition when my grandpa can no longer do it.
On the 4th of July we visit my sister-in-law at the beach! We enjoy a parade, a BBQ and then have a "blast" watching the official fireworks show and all the fireworks everyone else shoots off over the beach.
I celebrate the 4th of July with my family with a BBQ. All kinds of potlucks dishes - potato salad; ribs; chicken; string beans with potatoes. All good fun and good eats. Your mini quilt is really darling. A lot of your hard work and time was devoted to making this quilt. That means it is so special because nothing beats a homemade gift. Thank you for the chance to win.

The quilt is really nice, I would love to win it! I usually take my kids over to my aunts house where most of the extended family meets up. We swim and grill and just visit with family we dont see as much. At night, I take the kids to see the fireworks.
ReplyDeleteSweet quilt! Memorial Day - Indy 500, family cookout; July 4th - fireworks. Thanks for the great giveaway!
ReplyDeleteMemorial Day has taken on a new meaning after the death of my step-brother in Afghanistan in 2012. Memorial day used to be the beginning of summer, not really celebrating the lives of those we lost. Now, its a day to reflect and remember all those that have given their ALL for our Country.
ReplyDeleteWe always spend both holidays with our family and have a big bbq. Your quilt is beautiful:)
ReplyDeleteLovely giveaway, thank you for the chance to win it.Our national holiday was 1st May and people here have barbecue in the nature,we stay home because it was too hot but being in the park and in the afternoon take a walk while our daughter ride her bike.Have a lovely day.
ReplyDeleteWhat a pretty little quilt! We try to have picnics or cookouts. And of course fireworks on the 4th.
ReplyDeleteWell I just moved a few days ago to be with family..so my memorial day and 4th of July were spent alone the past several years! So mine are not very interesting..but its going to change now that I am with family. I am super excited to spend holidays with my niece for the first time! It is going to be so fun!!
ReplyDeleteWe usually travel home to upstate NY for the 4th of July. All of my brothers and sisters meet there for food, fun & fireworks! Unfortunately, we lost our mother to cancer a couple of years ago, so although it will never be the same, we still always due it as a tribute to her:)
ReplyDeleteWe've gone "downtown" to Washington DC and watched the fireworks on the Mall. We did it once, and now I can say "been there, done that". Entirely too many people for my tastes. I prefer watching the local town's fireworks from our backyard. Our dog gets his bath the day after the 4th. Something about being a little gunshy of the fireworks sounds (even though they are in the distance) and the occasional watermelon seed landing on the dog (from the seed spitting contest), requires him to "hit the showers" the day after :)
ReplyDeleteSince I am an Aussie I won'r be marking the day. I did however mark Australia day on 26th January with a family get together (but indoors) as it was raining.
ReplyDeletethanks for the chance to win this lovely quilt.
We do a cookout and our little town often has a fun parade, but usually not on the actual day. It is fun as all the fire trucks and tractors are all cleaned up and shown off!
ReplyDeleteOn the fourth of July we gather with family and friends to have a BBQ, shoot fireworks, swim, and play team games.
ReplyDeleteLove reading the comments about how others celebrate their country's national holidays! Here, we just do cookouts and family/friend get togethers- by the lake if it's nice out!
ReplyDeleteI decorate the front proch with flags and patriotic wreath. We allways have a cook out with family. Thank you for the chance to enter your giveaway.
ReplyDeleteCookouts, parades, and fireworks!
ReplyDeleteOh that is so pretty! We had a great time on the last Royal Wedding here in the UK - and enjoyed our own polite garden party : )
ReplyDelete4th of July is always a cook out with friends and watching the fireworks, where as Memorial day we do all kinds of different things. We especially love to camp out at different parks.
