Quilt Top Ready

I started this quilt top long before our Western States vacation, but something about this quilt top seemed to yell--Wild West.  It was inspired by a novelty print of horses.
I made fabric by piecing commercial fabrics around a center fabric.  My center fabric was made many summers ago with nails and vinegar.  Soak a piece of fabric in vinegar and wrap the nails or what ever metal you wish with the vinegar cloth.  Wrap in a plastic bag around the cloth and set in the sun for a few hours. Wash and dry cloth and your ready to start quilting.
I fussy cut the horses and appliqued them to the fabric.  Used a tiny machine zig-zag stitch for the applique.
All is complete and on my design wall ready for quilting.  Measures about 22 x 23 inches. This little quilt is going to be a great reminder of our recent vacation.  That's what on my design wall, what's on yours.  Check out http://ninamariesayre.blogspot.com/  Off The Wall Friday to see what others are doing.  Have a great weekend and Happy Quilting!

  1. Ohhh love this - I love how the horses end up galloping across the quilt but also that the border still brings you eye in a diagonal view too! That border just adds a ton of interest!

  2. I love that the horses are not confined into the background but are roaming free outside into the border! I live in the Wild West, so this piece really hits the spot for me!
