Sunday---Precious Promises

We have many parts in the one body, and all these parts have different functions.  In the same way, though we are many, we are one body in union with Christ, and we are all joined to each other as different parts of one body.  So we are to use our different gifts in accordance with the grace that God has given us.  If our gift is to speak God's message, we should do in according to the faith that we have; if it is serve, we should serve; if it is to teach, we should teach; if it is to encourage others, we should do so.  Whoever shares with others should do it generously; whoever has authority should work hard; whoever shows kindness to others should do it cheerfully.  Romans 12: 4-8, Good News Bible

Two Prayer Flags to One Address

Yes, I'm sending two prayer flags to one address.  Our neighbors are both going through--as she says--parts replacement.

He is going to have rotatory cuff surgery and she hip replacement.  The catch is
at the same time.  What timing!!!  These are our neighbors in Arizona and out there the doctors and hospitals have more control over timing than you.   There are so many people getting replacement parts that you get in line until your number is called.  They are both in good health and the surgeries will improve their activity level.  It will just be inconvenient for a while.  The flags are simple but send a message for healing, comfort and strength.  Happy Quilting!

Pillow, Candle Mat or What Should I Be???

I just completed a little project that has been tucked away for about a year.  Made from homespun fabrics, applique and embroidery this little project measures 16 1/2 inches square.  What should it be??  I'm still thinking.

Check out the wonderful projects at Off the Wall I'm going to, maybe I'll get an idea for the purpose of my little project.  Let me know how you think I should finish this little quilt top or whatever???   Happy Quilting!

Decorating with Quilts---page 10

Over the past few weeks I have been taking photos around the house of the many quilts I have displayed.  I surprised myself---I didn't realize I had so many out for others to see.  I have reached the end of my personal displays, but there are always creative ways to display these wonderful textiles.  So in recap, a few more ideas:

How do you enjoy your quilts?  Share in the comments--we all love to hear new ideas.  Happy Decorating and Happy Quilting!

Quilt History

If you enjoy a book about the history of quilting.  I have one for you.  Stitched from the Soul by Gladys-Marie Fry.  This book gives the reader a glimpse into the lives and creativity of African American quilters during the era of slavery.  Wonderful documentation and pictures.

Stitched from the Soul was a birthday present and I'm enjoying every page.

Decorating with Quilts---page 9

Sometimes,  you come across quilts that are in great disrepair or a block that is orphaned.  These small reminders of work completed by a family member or just a textile that you love. What can you do with them---Frame it!!  I found four around our home that are nice reminders.  The first two were made by my Grandmother and have found a home in my sewing room.

Orphaned applique tulip block

This little quilt was in disrepair and given to me by a friend.  It is now tucked behind the TV equipment in the bookshelf.  Helps to brighten a dark area and reminds me of a sweet friend.

You can get clever like my sister-in-law and add a saying to cutter quilt pieces.
This was a Christmas gift a few years back and is now in our laundry room.
