Sunday---Precious Promises

Listen, and I will teach you what wise men have said.  Study their teachings, and you will be glad if you remember them and can quote them.  I want you to put your trust in the Lord; that is why I am going to tell them to you now.  I have written down thirty sayings for you.  They contain knowledge and good advice, and will teach you what the truth really is.  Then when you are sent to find it out, you will bring back the right answer.

#1.  Don't take advantage of the poor just because you can; don't take advantage of those who stand helpless in court.  The Lord will argue their case for them and threaten the life of anyone who threatens theirs.  Proverbs 22: 17-23 Good News Bible

First Christmas with Parker

What a wonderful day.  We had a fun packed afternoon.  Parker, Cole, Mom and Dad came over around 3:00pm.  They joined other members of the family for a gift exchange and a soup buffet.  The gift exchange was mostly about Parker.  He had more gifts under the tree than anyone expected.  So many great toys, but of course the wrapping paper, bows and boxes were the real hit.

Exactly how does this work, Mom?

Interesting!!!

I think I've got it!!!

I need a drink break after all this.

After this photo with Mom, Brother and Family Friend (Karen holding Parker), the cute little Christmas outfit turned into a wet mess.  Parker made his way to the utility room without being noticed and played in the dog water.  The simple gifts in life are always the best.

For the past few years (8 to be exact), I have served a soup buffet on Christmas evening.  We all so enjoy the relaxed nature of a simple light meal.  This year the buffet had a Mexican Chicken Soup, Oklahoma Steak Soup and Broccoli Cheese with an assortment of breads and cheesecake for dessert.

***The poinsettia quilt on the back of the love seat was made by my Mom in the 1960's.  I find a place for it every Christmas.  Adds a perfect pop of red on the white love seat.  Happy Quilting!

Stockings Are Hung--Somewhat!!!

Today was the day I had the house to myself and I had a choice.  Finish the Christmas decorating or work on a quilt  project I've been thinking about for a couple of days.  I chose Christmas.  This is our first Christmas with Parker (10 month old grandson).  So coming up with decorations that would be Parker Proof was a challenge. We usually have a large tree in the corner by the fireplace, but Parker is now in his discovery mode and a very fast crawler.  So after many ideas and suggestions from friends.  I decided a small tree on the top of the dry bar would be best.

As I look around the room this little change is really very nice.  I notice too, that without the large tree and the rearranging of furniture, it allows for more open space for play and fun.   It will be more enjoyable to watch play than a tree.  So the stocking are hung and I'm ready for all the excitement our little Parker will give us this year and many years to come.  Have an enjoyable weekend and Happy Quilting!

Sunday---Precious Promises

This, then, is how you should pray:  Our Father in heaven:  May your holy name be honored; may your Kingdom come; may your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.  Give us today the food we need.  Forgive us the wrongs we have done as we forgive the wrongs that other have done to us.  Do not bring us to hard testing but keep us safe from the Evil One.  "If you forgive others the wrongs they have done to you, your Father in heaven will also forgive you.  But if you do not forgive others then your Father will not forgive the wrongs you have done."

Do not judge others, and God will not judge you; do not condemn others, and God will not condemn you; forgive others, and God will forgive you.  Give to others, and God will give to you.  Indeed, you will receive a full measure, a generous helping, poured into your hands---all that you can hold.  The measure you use for others is the one that God will use for you. Bargain Price

The church bazaar and dinner is over.  The food was wonderful and the whole cloth quilt has a new home.  Our quilt sold for $375.00.   Considering all the quilting that was put into this project, we quilters were hoping for more bidders and a higher price.  But we were pleased with the outcome of our silent auction.  The money we earned will go toward various mission projects in our area.  Have a wonderful day and Happy Quilting!

All the Pretty Quilts

I attended a quilt show many months back and took some photos of ones that caught my eye.  I was just cleaning up my camera and stumbled on them and realized I had not shared them with you.  I neglected to get the names of the creators, but hope you enjoy them as much as I did.

This quilt was so bright and cheerful.  Makes me ready for the season.

 Beautiful workmanship

A nine-patch is always my favorite no matter the size.

Love sampler look

Fun and active quilt, so much to see in this quilt.

 Nice country look.

 Fun, Fun, Fun

 Wonderful colors

Creative Wall hanging
It was nice for me to find these quilts on my camera.  I have been in a quilting slump lately.  Time has been one factor.  Life has taken a turn that pulls me away from the machine or even handwork for other things.  And arthritis is another thing.  My hands have been dealing me a fit lately.  I guess the winter weather that is headed our way is not helping.  Anyway, woe is me.  Hopefully I will get back to some quilt work soon---miss it.  Have a great weekend and Happy Quilting!

It's That Time of Year

Each year around this time you'll find me with a quilt to bind for the annual Silent Auction.  Each year the Lydia Circle of the United Methodist Church at Wentzville offers up a quilt to be auctioned.  The monies we raise goes toward our various mission donations within the church and our community.
This year we did a whole cloth.

Through out the year we get many donations from the community.  The donations are used in various ways.  Some things we sell at the Festival of Sharing Quilt Show.  Some we use for quilt tops. This year in a donation we found this whole cloth kit.  The kit was unopened, I guess someone changed their mind.  We had never offered a whole cloth quilt for auction, so decided to give it a try.

This Queen Anne Star took many hours and lots of thread.  The outcome is beautiful.   We're all anxious to see how the congregation  reacts to our quilt this year.  I'll post the results of the auction in a few weeks.  Happy Quilting!

Sunday---Precious Promises

"Do not let your hearts be burdened.  Believe in God, believe also in me.  In my Father's house there are many dwelling places.  If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you?  And if I go and prepare a place for you I will come again and will take you to myself, so that where I am, there you may be also.  And you know the way to the place where I am going." Thomas said to him, "Lord, we do not know where you are going; so how can we know the way to get there?"
Jesus said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father, but by me."  John 14: 1-6

Festival of Sharing Quilt Show

Today is the day that the Festival of Sharing Quilts go up for auction here in Missouri.  Before the auction we open our church for a show and luncheon.  This year we are especially excited about our donation.  One of our very talented members offered this quilt top as her donation and our Lydia Circle quilt group did the quilting.

I know this quilt has already received two sealed bids.  We feel it will go for a very good price.  I'll let you know.  Happy Quilting!

Central Division Champs & Needlework

There is no better time to complete handwork or in this case needlepoint than in front of the TV watching the St. Louis Baseball Cardinals in the Post Game Playoffs.  A few years ago I worked on a quilt, depicting all the World Series the Cardinals have won.  You may remember this one.

This years project is much smaller and will become a rectangle pillow.  I'm almost finished and the story quilt took a couple of years to complete.  This pillow hopefully a couple of weeks.  Baseball fans will understand--Post Season is always exciting no matter your team.  So Good Luck to everyone, but for me it's

Prayer Flags for Parker

Parker at Easter
Our little Parker leaves tomorrow morning with his Mom and Dad for the Shriner's Hospital in Chicago.    Parker was born with a clef lip.  The doctor's say that on a scale of 1-10 (with 10 being the worst), Parker's lip is a 1 and his surgeries should be very easy.  Easy or not, this is a scary time for Mom and Dad.  I thought a couple of little Pocket Prayer Flags might help them on their trip to Chicago.

The whistling fisherman is for Mom and measures 4 inches square.

I made a much smaller one for our son (Parker's Dad) so he could put it in his pocket.
 It's only 2 x 3 inches.
If you're so inclined, say a little prayer for everyone as they embark on this journey.  Parker's surgery will be Friday.  For the doctor's skill, for Mom and Dad's patience, peace and strength during Parker's time of need and for Parker's uncomplicated recovery.  Thank you and wishing you a happy day.
Happy Quilting!

I Found A Spot

In some recent posts, I've talked about how things are changing around our household.  The sewing/guest room is now a Parker (grandson)/guest room.  Since my quilting was done in that room I have been looking for a spot and since our lower level is also the warehouse for hubby's sport memorabilia business, I was having a tough time. But, I found a spot, today.

It's located under the steps and in front of one of the atrium windows.  Right next to a coffee table. It's under that striped towel.  The table is one that I just can't seem to part with, but at the present time it's looking for a spot too.  We both fit nicely under the steps and out of the way of traffic.  The window is bright, which will make stitching enjoyable as I can look outside to the back yard, woods and one of our wildlife feeding stations.  The deer love this spot too.  Not as big as an entire room, but it will do.  As I mentioned before I'm enjoying this scale back time.  More time to enjoy Parker and doing smaller handwork projects.  I have more arranging to do on my spot to get it just right, so have a great weekend and Happy Quilting in your spot!

Catfish Pillow and Little Boy Quilt

My sewing room is getting a new look and a new purpose.  Soon to be a little boy's bedroom/playroom.  Boxes are being moved and new items are being positioned.  We have been trying to think of a theme for Parker's new room when an old Catfish pillow and an embroidery quilt gave us the answer.

This little quilt was a gift from my hubby's cousins to Parker when he arrived on the scene six months ago.  The Catfish pillow I've had for years----so why not put the two together to create a little boy's fishing haven.  My sewing room always doubled as a guest room.  So a trundle bed and night stand will be moved so that the quilt will hang over the crib.  An antique school desk, rocking chair, and toys will round out this special place for our special boy.   Happy Quilting!

Things Have Been A Changing

Things have been changing in my little household lately.  We have had a wonderful addition--our first grandchild, Parker.  I knew things would be different, but WOW, I didn't realize how different.  My sewing room is packed and ready for moving.

My once room made up of boxes of fabric, threads, three machines and tons of ideas, will now consist of one machine is a corner of the lower level.

My sewing room will become Parker's bedroom.  As things go in this modern family world, our lower level is being turned into a single Dad's apartment.  We are blessed that we have the room and availability to offer Dad and grandson a place to hang their hats while getting their feet on the ground.

Parker will be with his Dad 50% of his time. At 6 months old, both Parker and Dad are learning lots about each other and this bright new world.

My quilting has become one of very small pieces and lots of hand work.  I've made a couple of tiny prayer flags (will post about those later).  Working on the horse quilt.

For some reason the quilting decisions for this quilt has caused me lots of concern.  But, finally after machine quilting part then removing stitches--just didn't look right.  I decided that hand quilting would be my best option.  I will say with this move to a smaller sewing area and the making of small hand work quilts and prayer flags, I feel refreshed.  It is very relaxing after some very busy days.

So, this is what I've been doing lately.  Change can be good.  Even though it catches you off guard and sometimes make things a little difficult.  But, faith keeps me centered and his precious promises will always speak to what is really important and the big picture.  Happy Quilting!
