Just Couldn't Wait

A few days ago I was getting together my "take-a-long" AAQI quilt tops to keep me company on our drive to Arizona.  Well, I just couldn't wait.  This weekend end I hand quilted what I'll call "Unconditional Love".  This little 9" square quilt is ready for binding.  I added some amber leaf beads on the corners and the quilting follows the pattern of the fabrics.  Quick and fun!  Have a great Monday and Happy Quilting!

New Year's Resolution----Not

I'm so glad my New Year's Resolution was not something like "I will post every day to my blog", or even every other day.  Where have I been????  Definitely not posting.  But I have been doing some quilting.  I do have a 2012 goal of donating 30 quilts to AAQI and I have been working on that project.  Here is my first collection of 10 quilts.  They are all ready to be quilted---some are ready for binding.  That's what I've been doing.  Hubby and I will be heading to Arizona for a few weeks and I thought that would be a great time get together some AAQI quilts to take with me.  We are driving this year, and I can quilt in the car, listen to books on tape---it just makes the trip not quite as long.   I will be flying home.  Hubby will be staying to meet our son for some Spring Training Baseball games.  Baseball is their father/son activity---they both really love the game.  They both played serious baseball, hubby in college and son on select teams----our household revolves around the baseball season.  Still does!!!  Happy Quilting, everyone!

Estate Sale Find

I don't know the patterns name, but I love the colors and placement.  I stumbled on to this full size quilt at an Estate Sale last weekend.  The sale was outside and really cold.  I stayed around for about 3 hours to bid on this quilt and so glad I did.  The quilt is very old with a feed sack back.  I believe some of the blocks are feed sack, too.  There are no stains or tears with just a small about the fading on the back.  Just a great vintage quilt to add to my collection.  I love to think of the stories these old quilts can tell.  The people they comforted through good times and bad.  There is love in every stitch.  Happy Quilting!

Free Style

As the New Year begins, I'm reflecting on my quilting projects from the past few years.    I've read books from the library and marveled at the quilt shows, and postings on blogs.  I realize that I have so many more quilts to make and techniques to try.   I 've come to some personal discoveries over the years.  I like being creative with my quilt patterns---I make my own.  I've started this large St. Louis Cardinal throw, Stars Over Cardinal Nation.  The throw is being hand quilted and really is going faster than I thought it would.  It is fun, but, I truly prefer miniatures.  Miniatures seem more controllable to me.  I don't have a large sewing area and sometimes a large quilt just becomes to unrully for my space.  Miniatures not only fit my work space, but they allow me to do hand work as a take along and I like having something to do rather than just sitting.  I also like Free Styling.  That is what I call just sewing or making your own fabric with pieces.  Not worrying about points that match, just putting together like colors and stopping when you make the piece as large are you want.

I made these little panels for AAQI quilts.  The black one will be hand quilted.  The pink with have a little applique---still thinking on this one.

My AAQI goal for this year is 30 quilts.  That will make an even 100 quilts donated and I like that number.  Another thing I'm going to do this year is make some 6" quilts.  I have my Featherweight set up with light weight thread and small needle.  Ready to go.  I'm working on my ideas and I've even taken advantage of some "After Christmas" sales on 8" square shadow boxes to hold these little mini quilts.  My 2012 quilting year seems full of ideas.  I better get busy if I'm going to get all this done.  Have you set quilting goals for the year?    Happy Quilting!
