Nothing Runs Like a Deere

I've completed a quilt top---Yea! I haven't made a larger quilt top in ages. I really prefer small quilts, but I had some ideas I wanted to try, so a larger top was in order.

I've entitled this quilt Nothing Runs Like A Deere. It is a liberated medallion, with some liberated log cabin blocks and a hodge podge of placement. No measuring here---just cut and sew add where you need some fabic, cut where you don't. I plan to hand quilt this little throw, maybe in a large stitch with black thread. All of this liberation came from my reading, of late. Liberated String Quilts and Liberated Quiltmaking II by Gwen Marston and Thinking Outside the Block by Sandi Cummings. Both are wonderful and give you permission to try new things.

Back to the sewing. Have a wonderful weekend and Happy Quilting.

I Guess I'm on Break????

Wow, it has been a long time since I've posted to my blog. I've been here, but I guess my mind has been on break. I have been painting the interior of the house---that's done---YEA!! and of course all the Spring Cleaning that goes with it. So I've been away from my sewing machine.

You know, I think I need to set a time for going to my sewing room every day and doing something. Do any of you have a set time to quilt? How does it work?

I do have some AAQI information to pass along: "Alzheimer's Illustrated: From Heartbreak to Hope" will be displayed for the first time March 26-27 in Amherst , MA at the Hands All Around Quilt Show (Hands Across The Valley Quilt Guild). It will be at the Mullins Center on the UMass Campus. Hours are 10am to 4pm. Adults, $8. If your in the area stop by and enjoy the beautiful display. Think about booking the display in your own area.

As Always Happy Quilting to everyone.

Eco-Emi Arrived

Yesterday, my Eco-Emi March Box arrived. I signed up earlier this year to receive a little box each month from this new company Eco-Emi, featuring 8 to 10 items that are ecological friendly, natural and free from animal testing. I have used some of my samples from February and I've been very pleased. With the items you'll received pricing and additional information about the company, so if you like a product you can then go and make a purchase and start living a green life. This is an excellent way to get to know the manufacturers and products that are available to help protect our planet and ourselves. Does this sound like a commercial? Well, I'm very proud of the Founder of Eco-Emi. Christine is one of my former students and my traveling companion for a month in London in 2009. Sometimes there is a student that becomes more than a student, they become a friend. Both hubby and I have been blessed with students that have made a difference in our lives and I'm happy to say Christine is one of them. With her new company she is now making a difference in many lives by introducing people to living green. This is her passion and I wish her well. If you want to learn more about Eco-Emi just go to http://www.ecoemi.com/ and as always Happy Quilting.

Mug Rugs by Angel

Yesterday two wonderful Mug Rugs arrived from my Mug Rug Partner, Angel. They are both so bright -- remind me of Spring. Notice the little surprise she tucked inside. A wonderful pin cushion (which I really needed) and colorful spring fabrics. I put my Mug Rugs right to work. Hubby and I share an antique table between our recliners and the Mug Rugs are perfect by each of our chairs.

Thanks Angel for such a delightful surprise. Happy Quilting!

Just Reading

The month of March has started with a flurry of activity around the homestead. All this activity has left me with little time to quilt, but I've made up for it with some reading. Prairie Flower by Barbara Brackman is a great book on applique, but also has history and patterns---great read and wonderful ideas. My other two books are satisfying the liberated quilter side of me. Collaborative Quilting by Freddy Moran & Gwen Marston offer great ideas and stunning photos. Quilting with Style by Gwen Marston & Joe Cunningham is great for those unique finishing lines we are all looking for on our liberated quilt tops. These books have given me the break needed from the non-quilting activity at the house. Taxes are on the dining table---almost done, YEA!!!!! And the spring painting has begun.
The color is call Churchill Hotel Maple, from Lowes. (I'm really giving the plugs today!!) anyway I love it---really makes the woodwork pop. Of course, one improvement makes for another---so I've decided to upgrade two of our ceiling fans and a bathroom light fixture.
We have a beautiful day today, so hubby is outside working in the woods and racking some leaves, as winter is not over in MO and we are expecting some rains and colder weather this weekend. Well, back to the taxes---Happy Quilting to everyone!
